In the far north of Morocco, the city of Tangier invites travelers. On its coasts where the Mediterranean and Atlantic waters converge, you discover an authentic city rocked by varied influences.
Take a stroll through White Tangier. Stroll through the streets lined with whitewashed houses and, like Matisse before you, like Delacroix too, let yourself be carried away by this dreamlike air that emanates from the city. Get lost in the aisles of the great “Socco”; at the foot of the high walls of the “Kasbah”, admire the fortress which dominates the medina. Not far away is the “Sultan Palace” today dedicated to the arts of Morocco. Tangier also has Spanish influences with an arena that stands on the “Plaza de Torros”, not to mention the “Cervantes” theater built in 1913.
Journey into the Rif Mountains to visit a traditional Berber souk (market) which gathers weekly. Visit Souk al Arbaa,”The Sunday Market». The souk is one of the typical features of rural life in Morocco.Here, agrarian people come from the neighboring hills to sell their goods and buy what they will need for the coming week. A well as finding local merchants, you will find the craftsman-one fixing shoes, the other welding a teapot, the hairdresser and the soothsayers. You will also find the blacksmiths and the local dentist practicing his trade without any of the modern amenities visit to the rural souk is truly a journey back in time.
back to tangier, visit Asilah, the fortified Portuguese village 46 Km south of the Atlantic cost.In Asilah, visit the Bab Homar, the Berber Kasbah, the Palace of Raisouli and enjoy the relaxing ambiance and quaint of the town.
